Day 1: Arrival in Delhi

Arrive in Delhi, India's bustling capital. Transfer to your hotel and rest after your journey. Brief exploration of Delhi, visiting the National Museum to see Buddhist artifacts from different periods. Overnight in Delhi.

Day 2: Delhi to Varanasi

Fly from Delhi to Varanasi, one of the world's oldest inhabited cities and a significant place in Buddhism. Visit Sarnath, just outside Varanasi, where Buddha gave his first sermon in the Deer Park and established the Sangha or community of monks. The Dhamekh Stupa marks this seminal event in Buddhism. Attend the Ganga Aarti ceremony at the Ghats. The ceremony usually begins with the lighting of lamps or candles by priests, accompanied by chanting of mantras and devotional songs. The lamps are then waved in circular motions in a synchronized manner, creating a mesmerizing display of light. Devotees and tourists often gather to witness this spectacle, which is believed to invoke blessings from the sacred river. Overnight in Varanasi.

Day 3: Varanasi to Bodhgaya

Travel to Bodhgaya, the site of Buddha's enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree. Visit the Mahabodhi Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and meditate under the Bodhi Tree. Explore the various monasteries and temples around Bodhgaya built by Buddhist communities from around the world. Overnight in Bodhgaya.

Day 4: Bodhgaya

Continue exploring Bodhgaya. Visit the Great Buddha Statue, Sujata Kuti, and the Dungeshwari Cave Temples, where the Buddha practiced severe asceticism before his enlightenment. Attend a prayer service at a monastery. Overnight in Bodhgaya.

Day 5: Bodhgaya to Rajgir - Nalanda – Patna

Drive to Rajgir, an important Buddhist pilgrimage site. Visit the Vulture Peak, where Buddha delivered several sermons. Explore the ruins of Nalanda University, an ancient center of Buddhist learning. Continue to Patna for the night. Overnight in Patna.

Day 6: Patna to Vaishali – Kushinagar

Travel to Vaishali, where Buddha delivered his last sermon and announced his impending Nirvana. Proceed to Kushinagar, the site of Buddha's Mahaparinirvana (passing away). Visit the Mahaparinirvana Temple and the Ramabhar Stupa, marking the Buddha's cremation spot. Overnight in Kushinagar.

Day 7: Kushinagar to Lumbini

Cross into Nepal to Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha. Visit the Maya Devi Temple, Ashoka Pillar, and the Sacred Garden. The Maya Devi Temple is particularly revered by devotees, especially women seeking blessings for fertility and childbirth. The Ashoka Pillar at Sarnath is a monolithic pillar made of polished sandstone, standing about 15 meters tall. It originally had a capital with four lions atop it, which is now the national emblem of India. Explore monasteries built by different countries. Overnight in Lumbini.

Day 8: Lumbini to Kapilavastu – Balrampur

Visit Kapilavastu, where Siddhartha Gautama spent his early years as a prince. Cross back into India and head to Balrampur. Relax and prepare for the next day's journey. Overnight in Balrampur.

Day 9: Balrampur to Sravasti – Lucknow

Visit Sravasti, where Buddha spent 24 rainy seasons in meditation and preaching. Travel to Lucknow, a city known for its rich history and culture. Explore Lucknow’s architectural wonders. Overnight in Lucknow.

Day 10: Lucknow to Agra

Depart for Agra, home to the iconic Taj Mahal. Visit the Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a monument of love that also offers a serene and contemplative environment. Explore Agra Fort, also known as the Red Fort of Agra, is a historic fort located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is one of the most important and well-preserved forts in India, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Overnight in Agra.

Day 11: Agra to Mathura – Delhi

Travel to Mathura, the birthplace of Lord Krishna, which also holds significance in Buddhism as the center of the first monastic order. Return to Delhi. Free time in Delhi. Overnight in Delhi.

Day 12: Delhi

Explore more of Delhi's Buddhist-related sites, including the Bahá'í Lotus Temple, a place of worship that welcomes all regardless of religion, and the Delhi branch of the Tibet House, which has a museum of Tibetan art and artifacts. Free for leisure or additional exploration. Overnight in Delhi.

Day 13: Delhi Excursion to Dharamshala (Optional)

For those interested, take an optional day trip to Dharamshala (by flight), the home of the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government in exile. Visit the Tsuglagkhang Complex, the Dalai Lama's temple. Return to Delhi. Overnight in Delhi.

Day 14: Departure from Delhi

Last-minute shopping or sightseeing according to flight schedule. Transfer to the airport for your departure.
