Day 1
Guest will be received at Tiruchirapalli International Airport/ Kumbakonam Railway Station. Travel to Kumbakonam. The distance from Tiruchirapalli International Airport to Kumbakonam is 104 kilometres and it takes around approximately 2 hours to reach. Check into the hotel and freshen up. The Navagrahas, nine grahas or celestial bodies, comprise Surya (Sun), Chandra (Moon), Angarakan (Mars), Budha (Mercury), Guru (Jupiter), Shukra (Venus), Shani(Saturn), Rahu and Ketu (the two nodes of the eclipses- the Solar and the Lunar). The word Graha means “ to attract”. These celestial bodies are believed to affect the physical and mental condition of human beings. The nine planets appear to move in the celestial sphere with reference to the stellar constellations known as Nakshatra (Stars). There are twenty-seven Nakshatras which are repeated in a Hindu Calendar every month. The movements of these bodies with respect to the Nakshatras are said to control a person’s destiny including his thoughts and deeds, status and prosperity. The worship of Navagrahas makes the planets that are in auspicious situations offer increased fruits of benefits for one’s actions while the planets which occupy less desirous situations tend to remove the evil effects of a person’s karma. The Navagrahas are considered to be intermediaries between the principal deity in the temple, almost always Shiva and the worshipper. They each are in charge of specific areas of concern to the devotee, be it health, wealth, pursuit of knowledge, professional gain or just about anything else. The belief is that worshipping the specific graha for the specific need gets the devotee the boon he craves. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 2
Begin your day with the breakfast at your hotel. Proceed to 5 temples of the Navagraha Temple of Tamil Nadu. Visit Suryanar Kovil, dedicated to the Hindu Sun God. The main shrine has Suryanarayan standing with Usha Devi on his left and Pratyusha Devi or Chaya Devi on his right. This is one of the only two temples dedicated to Bhagawan Surya, with Konark in North India being the other. This gives great significance to the temple. Then visit Kailasanathar Temple, the presiding deity is Soma (moon). The main idol in the temple is that of “Kailasanathar” or Shiva The small temple here has a small shrine dedicated to Chandran. Then proceed to Vaitheeswaran Koil, Shiva is worshipped as Vaitheeswaran or the “God of healing” and it is believed that prayers to Vaitheeswaran can cure diseases. It is one of the nine Navagraha temples associated with the planet Mars (Angaraka). Then visit Swetharanyeswarar Temple, one of the most famous Navagraha pariharam sthalam of lord Budhan (Mercury). In this temple the prime deity is Lord shiva and goddess Parvati. Deity of lord Shiva in this temple is a Swayambumurti. This is one of the six Shiva sthalams on the banks of river Cauvery and holds equal significance as Kasi (Banaras). Proceed to Apatsahayesvarar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva as Apatsahayesvarar and his wife Parvati as Elavarkuzhali. This temple is devoted to Brihaspati or Guru (Jupiter) the second largest in the solar system and Lord Shiva is personified as Lord Guru so this place is known as the Guru sthalam. Return to the hotel and overnight stay at the hotel.

Visit Tirunageswaram Naganathar Temple, dedicated to Lord Rahu. Rahu Bhagavan is worshipped at this temple along with his two consorts Nagakanni and Nagavalli. Then proceed to Naganatha Swamy Temple, the presiding deity is Ketu also called shadow planet-Mercury. Here Ketu is enshrined with head of a snake and body of an asura.
